Oracle Client / Server Compatibility Matrix
Use this Oracle Client Compatibility page to review supported Oracle client and database version combinations before running DBA scripts, planning upgrades, or validating workstation setup. This Oracle compatibility matrix helps you check key version notes and support guidance.
What This Compatibility Matrix Helps You Check
Before running Oracle DBA scripts, it is important to confirm that the Oracle client installed on your workstation is supported with the Oracle Database version you are connecting to. This matrix helps Oracle DBAs, IFS ERP teams, and infrastructure teams validate common Oracle client and server combinations and understand whether a connection is currently supported, previously supported, or never supported.
- Confirm whether your Oracle client version is supported with your target Oracle Database version
- Review important support notes for older Oracle releases
- Understand the difference between supported, previously supported, and unsupported combinations
- Identify when compatibility may appear to work but is not officially supported by Oracle
Current Oracle Client Compatibility Matrix
*Oracle is replacing Oracle Database 23ai with Oracle AI Database 26ai starting with Release Update (RU) 23.26.0 (shipped in October 2025). For on-premises Databases, applying RU 23.26.1 or later to an Oracle Database 23ai instance will make the instance become Oracle AI Database 26ai. There is no database upgrade or application re-certification required.

The matrix below summarizes Oracle client and server combinations that are supported for the most commonly used product versions. Oracle states that new interoperability issues will only be investigated if both releases involved are covered by a valid support contract at the time the issue is reported.

Specific Compatibility Notes
The following notes apply to selected Oracle client and server combinations shown in the compatibility matrix. These notes are especially helpful when reviewing older Oracle environments, legacy IFS ERP systems, or mixed-version Oracle infrastructure.
- 11.2 interoperability: 11.2.0.3 or 11.2.0.4 only.
- 32-bit Oracle Clients: Support for 32-bit Oracle Clients, including Full Client and Instant Client, has been discontinued since 26ai. Older 32-bit clients such as 19c may still be used with 26ai Oracle Database server where platform support allows it.
- 12.1 interoperability: 12.1.0.2 only. For 11.2 interoperability, 11.2.0.4 is required.
- 23ai to 26ai update: Oracle notes that Oracle Database 23ai transitions to Oracle AI Database 26ai beginning with RU 23.26.0, with no database upgrade or application re-certification required for that change in supported scenarios.
General Compatibility Guidance
Oracle compatibility should be reviewed carefully before running administrative utilities, troubleshooting connection issues, or planning database upgrades. Some Oracle client and server combinations may appear to work, but unsupported combinations should not be relied upon for production support or issue resolution.
- For database links between different Oracle versions, support must exist in both directions.
- Unsupported combinations may appear to work, but Oracle states that related issues will not be investigated.
- Some newer Oracle database servers can work with older OCI clients, but certain newer features may not function unless the client is also upgraded.
- Oracle Applications and other Oracle products may have supported configurations not listed in this matrix.
- Unix BEQUEATH (BEQ) connections are not supported between different Oracle releases.
Full Oracle Client / Server Interoperability Matrix
The matrix below includes additional Oracle client and server version combinations for older and legacy environments. Use this section when reviewing long-lived Oracle systems, older IFS ERP environments, or upgrade planning scenarios involving earlier Oracle releases.
Note: Oracle states that Oracle Database 23ai is being replaced by Oracle AI Database 26ai starting with Release Update 23.26.0. Applying RU 23.26.0 to an Oracle Database 23ai instance causes that instance to become Oracle AI Database 26ai. There is no database upgrade or application re-certification required in that case.
